The first player to swing combat damage into an opponent becomes its first owner, and from there, anyone who deals combat damage to the current holder can seize it for themselves, gaining its bonuses... while also painting a target on their back. Hold the Arkenstone at the start of your turn and your ownership count ticks up by one. Reach an ownership count of 3, and you win the game. Simple to explain, chaotic to play, expect shifting alliances, sudden betrayals, and a table full of players eyeing that gem like it owes them money.
